Sports Panels

We started our last session with the older boys working with paint to create color wheels and sports panels! After mixing their own colors they used their understanding of color relationships and complementary colors to create sport themed panels that really popped!

After creating basketballs and footballs some of the boys recreated fields on panels…

While others focused to creating the players!

It’s been a great week 6 so far, see you on Friday for the final gallery!

Bringing Geometry and Art Together

Our last class with the girls involved incorporating geometry and creating personalized tetrahedrons.

We started similarly to the boys duplicating the triangle to create various shapes including rhombus, trapezoid and hexagon and worked to develop tetrahedrons.

Our volunteer to artist ratio was pretty much equal so the girls were able to work one on one to create their own templates and build their forms!

The younger girls joined us for the second half of the class to create their own art and develop 3D shapes of their own!

Our last class is coming up Tuesday with the boys, see you then!

Triangles to Tetrahedrons

We began Tuesday’s class with the 10 to 12 year old boys going over basic geometric shapes taking the triangle and duplicating it to create a rhombus, trapezoid and then hexagon.

From these drawings, the boys chose a platonic shape to build. They created their own templates and made cubes, tetrahedrons, dodecahedrons and even a 20 sided icosahedron!

The boys were incredibly patient working to build complex shapes and even incorporated their own interests by decorating their shapes about sports! This summer has been a blast so far and our last two classes are already coming up, but until then, see you on Friday!

Painting and Patterns

This Friday we started painting and exploring color theory principles with the 10 to 12 year old girls!

After going over the primary and secondary colors, we learned about analogous colors and tested out blending. After trying a combination of both warm and cool colors we moved onto our repeat pattern design masterpieces!

Starting with a basic square, the girls created their own tiles which they replicated and traced over their papers. They then used their color knowledge to create awesome pieces!

We even had an abstract painter in the bunch!

Here's one of our artists with our volunteer Pin and a masterpiece they worked on together! It was really fun and the girls ended up creating beautifully complex pieces! See you on Tuesday!

Let's Paint a Mural for the Kids!

The fundraising campaign has begun! Over the past 5 months LABnormal has been working with the Frank Callen Boys & Girls Club at Kayton Homes developing a project to provide renovations to their center.

Our goal is to raise $12,000 that will go towards interior renovations and ultimately fund an exterior mural to transform their center. Please check out our indiegogo page for more information and to support our project!

Spread the message with friends and family to create as strong a community supported project as possible!
